Basics of lemon laws worth knowing about

Found a lemon, while trying to buy a car? Worry not! Michigan Lemon Law is the safety net you can fall into. The Lemon Law in Michigan provides a layer of protection to car buyers who unfortunately are stuck with defective cars.

What vehicles are covered under the Michigan lemon law?

When a car is bought by a Michigan resident solely for household purposes, the car is covered under the law. Also, if the car has defects which create hindrance in its usage and also affects the value of the vehicle it’s covered.

The law doesn’t cover heavy utility vehicles like Trucks and Buses. If the vehicle is for commercial purposes it doesn’t fall in the ambit of this law. One cannot claim remedy from the law if they buy more than 10 cars in a month. Used cars which are transacted within the warranty period stand covered. An exception would be a car damaged by neglect of the buyer, accident or damage due to abuse.

What is the procedure for availing such remedy?

The buyer can take their vehicle to the manufacturer, in case the vehicle is not repaired in 30 days. An 'informal dispute resolution' occurs for settling the dispute. If there is no solution arising out of this mediation, the buyer can go for legal actions. The litigation expenses will be reimbursed by the manufacturer if the suit is successful.

Thus, the Michigan Lemon Law protects buyers from atrocious manufacturers while buying their ultimate object of utility. If you are facing difficulties in understanding the procedure, contact Allen Stewart. With their expertise, you will be able to avail the requisite remedy.
